Under proper conditions, the sensor can detect alcohol concentrations within a range of 0.05 to 0.5 mg/L with a resolution of 0.01 mg/L. However, although this is already fairly accurate, we have been working to increase the accuracy with the addition of our real-time data ML model and facial analysis system. Using the sensor, model, and scanner brings the error rate close to zero.
Under typical usage conditions, some manufacturers estimate that the sensing material can last for 7 years. After that time period, they will have to get the sensor checked on. If eroded, the sensing materials will have to be replaced. However, it's relatively cheap to replace these sensors and we will provide this service to our consumers.
Our device will send an alert if it is moved outside a designated proximity from the car. To ensure security, the system incorporates a facial scanner that captures the driver’s facial signature to verify their identity during the test. If someone attempts to switch with the driver who has taken the test, they must undergo a scan. If the new individual is not cleared as sober, the car’s gears will remain locked in park, preventing the vehicle from being driven.
The ethanol sensor will scan for the driver's alcohol level right before the driver starts to operate the vehicle. SoberRide is the only passive and non-intrusive intoxication detection device on the market, making the driver's experience as easy as possible as they don't have to actively breathe into the device. If the concentration of alcohol is within legal limits, it will allow the driver to operate the vehicle as normal. The facial analysis system will be located near the rearview mirror. It will use a camera which scans the driver's face to make sure the driver doesn't switch seats with anyone to bypass the device, and provide a second set of inputs alongside the ethanol sensor. The camera doesn't use laser or any substance harmful to the human eye.
